At S2i2, we’re proud to highlight team members like Grey Scobey, whose commitment to excellence helps protect critical infrastructure for clients around the globe.
Since joining our team in October 2022, Grey has been an integral part of our Pentagon operations. As a Storage Systems Administrator on a contract for DISA J9 (formerly JSP), he leads a 24/7/365 operations team that serves as the crucial link between customers with specific storage requirements and the vendors whose products and services keep data secure and accessible.
“The most rewarding part of my work is knowing that our mission partners can rely on us,” Grey might tell you if you caught him between monitoring sessions. On any given day, you’ll find him collaborating with engineering teams to implement and maintain storage architecture, working hands-on with production hardware, or troubleshooting performance issues to prevent system outages before they affect operations.
Grey’s journey to S2i2 began at Chesapeake Energy Solutions, where he served as both an IT Administrator and Apprentice Electrician from November 2021 to September 2022. This unique combination of roles developed his attention to detail as he maintained inventory logs, deployed company systems, and coordinated shipments across departments. Working directly with clients also honed his ability to translate technical needs into practical solutions – a skill that serves him well in his current position.
When Grey isn’t guiding his team through platform transitions or resolving system alerts, you’ll find him hitting the books at Anne Arundel Community College, where he’s pursuing a degree in Information Assurance and Cyber Security. This commitment to continued learning reflects S2i2’s values of staying ahead of emerging threats and best practices in the cybersecurity landscape.
Despite the demanding nature of both work and academic commitments, Grey maintains the balanced perspective that makes for a great team member. “In an increasingly online world, I see games as a great way to disconnect and just be face to face with other people,” he explains about his love for video, board, and tabletop games. This appreciation for genuine human connection carries over into his approach with colleagues and clients alike.
The home improvement enthusiast in Grey is currently looking forward to tackling bathroom renovation and garden projects this summer – problem-solving skills that translate surprisingly well to the world of system administration. And true to form for many in our field, his passion for technology doesn’t stop when he leaves the office. Self-described as “just a nerd,” Grey enjoys taking on home network projects for friends and family, providing tech support for computer issues, and building custom systems just for the joy of tinkering.
