At S2i2, we believe in supporting veterans who served and sacrificed for our freedom and the United States. Many of S2i2’s employees are veterans who have served our country, both abroad and domestically. On Saturday, December 16, 2023, several S2i2 team members participated for the first time in the annual Wreaths Across America event held at the Alexandria National Cemetery.
S2i2 team members included Kato Chantaphakul, Kamilah Jackson, David Nawrocki, Alexis Sciacca, and Yanira Vanegas. We also participated alongside partners Marcus Copeland from Axonius Federal Systems/Axonius and Otto Orantes from Kaptivate.
The wreath-laying ceremony was coordinated by local veteran organizations and commenced with a short ceremony. Volunteers placed unique, handmade wreaths using balsam fir from Maine on over 4,000 soldiers’ tombstones. Afterwards, Axonius Federal Systems/Axonius hosted a brunch for the group.
Wreaths Across America (WAA) is a national non-profit organization best known for remembering fallen veterans with wreaths placed each December at Arlington National Cemetery; however, the organization is much more. As of 2019, the nonprofit placed more than 2 million sponsored veterans’ wreaths at over 2,100 participating locations nationwide while offering various year-long programs. More than 7,000 core volunteers across the country, along with their small but dedicated staff, work tirelessly on year-long programs that help accomplish the ongoing mission “to remember, honor and teach.”
