Data Science Foundation Skills
Learn the eight fundamental skills critical for success in a competitive data science job market.
On April 14th, 2023, S2i2 participated in a program development session for the Data Science program at Harrisburg Area Community College (HACC). The session brought together technology employers and higher education institutions to discuss the knowledge and skills that a student would need to succeed in the program.
During the meeting, the group brainstormed a list of competencies and skills that students should acquire during the first two years of the program. These skills were then categorized into knowledge areas that a student needs to successfully transfer to a four-year institution or gain entry-level employment upon graduation.

S2i2 was able to provide feedback to help HACC determine whether to center the program on transfer or career. As an approved employment partner with HACC, S2i2 aims to employ HACC students and alumni in fulfilling roles within the federal information technology sector.
HACC is a public community college in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania that is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education. The college serves over 17,000 degree-seeking students, as well as more than 8,300 remedial and workforce development students. With more than 100,000 alumni, HACC has a strong reputation for providing quality education and training that prepares students for successful careers.
By participating in the program development session, S2i2 was able to provide valuable input that will help shape the future of the Data Science program at HACC. This type of collaboration between industry partners and higher education institutions is critical for ensuring that students are equipped with the skills and knowledge they need to succeed in today’s fast-paced and competitive job market.
